The Office for the Aging assists Ulster County
residents, age 60 and older, to be as independent as possible, for as long as possible,
through advocacy and the development and delivery of cost effective
policies, programs and services that support and empower the elderly and
their families.
Some of the many programs and services include:
- Information
and Referral: Trained
office staff is available to answer questions or refer calls to
appropriate agencies.
- Home Delivered
Meals: May be
arranged for week day delivery to homebound persons over 60.
- Senior Dining
Program: Mid-day
meals are served weekly in Ellenville, Kingston,
Phoenicia, Rosendale, and Saugerties. Call for schedule of site openings.
- Subsidized
Senior Day Care:
Supervision, activities, limited personal care, and a mid-day meal are
provided at three day care centers in Ulster County.
- Subsidized
Home Care: Local
providers offer services in homes of people with temporary or chronic
needs who cannot perform day to day tasks. Services may range from
assistance with shopping, meal preparation and other household functions,
bathing, grooming and feeding.
- Home Energy
Assistance Program (HEAP):
Provides assistance to pay heating bills for low income seniors.
- Legal (civil
matters), income tax, and HllCAP medical insurance counseling: Available for seniors by appointment.
- Ulster County New York Connects:
unbiased information and referral regarding long term care needs from birth to end of life: 845-334-5307
- Subsidized
Medical Alert: A
24-hour emergency alert and identification system provided through
Kingston Hospital for persons with a medical condition needing immediate
assistance.
- Support Groups:
A variety of support groups are available for seniors and their
caregivers.
- Transportation: Once weekly subsidized transportation is available for shopping or
medical appointments. Call 340-3333 (UCAT) for information.
- Ulster Senior
Care-A-Van: Health
screening and health education outreach for Ulster County seniors from
March through December.
- Outreach and
Education on Medicare Programs:
Confidential counseling assistance and public education programs are
available.
- Ombudsman: Long term care advocacy program.
