FROM: ULSTER COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE DATE: November 15, 2002 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NOVEMBER 15, 2002 NOVEMBER 14, 2002 SESSION OF THE ULSTER COUNTY LEGISLATURE
At the November 2002 Session, the legislature passed a resolution to allow the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency to refinance its capital debt. The county will benefit from the refinancing because of the current low interest rates, thus saving Ulster County taxpayers up to $2 million per year. It is also anticipated that there will be a net savings in present day dollars, at about $750,000 over the life of the bond. Majority Leader Richard A. Gerentine stated, "This is a very prudent decision that the legislative body made in the interest of the taxpayers. I think you should bond something for the life of the asset itself." In other action, Chairman Ward D. Todd called upon Legislator Alan Lomita and District 6 Legislators William Calabrese, Wayne Harris, Albert Meyer, William McAfee and Glenn Noonan to present to Kristin Curtis a Pride of Ulster County Award. Kristin was presented the award in recognition of retaining the Mid-Hudson Athletic League Tennis Singles Title at the Section 9 Tournament and winning the Consolation Title at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Event. Chairman Ward D. Todd then called upon Legislator Alan Lomita and District 4 Legislators Frank Dart, David Donaldson, John Naccarato and Jeanette Provenzano to present to Anne Warnck a Pride of Ulster County Award in recognition of coming to the aid of Imogene Swarthout of Bloomington, New York. |
