Employer Services OET offers cost assisted training and placement services under the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Through our partnership with business, education, labor, public organizations and community agencies, we provide a variety of services that link employers to qualified job applicants. We know it takes a heavy investment of time, money and effort to train new employees. A growing number of employers have found a way to ease the burden by taking advantage of our employment and training services. Job Applicant Screening and Referral - Job applicants are prescreened to meet your companys specific business needs, allowing you to select candidates from a pool of prequalified job applicants. Wage Reimbursement for On-the-Job Training - Training new employees is often costly and time consuming. OET and your company may co-invest in a contractually negotiated On-the-Job Training (OJT) opportunity wherein you will be reimbursed for up to 50% of the trainees wages. You hire the trainee(s) and train them for a permanent position. OJT contracts are individually negotiated, the length of training determined by the jobs complexity and the trainees experience. You are expected to retain those trainees who successfully complete the program. Paperwork is kept to a minimum. You are only required to maintain normal payroll records. To further defray the costs associated with training new staff, you will also be provided with information on possible tax credits. Customized Training - Some things employers do best. That's why customized training begins with your design ideas. OET can fund 50% of the training costs for eligible individuals who are either incumbent workers or new hires. You are actively involved in curriculum review and design, competencies to be attained and participant selection criteria. Specific job skills training may be hands-on at your site or may be more concept-based classroom training, or a combination of both. Either may make use of appropriate educational institutions. Customized training requires a commitment by you to hire/retain all those who successfully complete the program. Ulster County OneStop Job Center - Located at the Business Resource Center on Ulster Avenue in Kingston, the OneStop Job Center is a collaborative effort operated by the New York State Department of Labor, Ulster County OET and Ulster County Department of Social Services. Employers can place job orders, interview job applicants in a private setting, and obtain information about Unemployment Insurance and other labor laws. In addition, employers may get technical assistance, including a safety/health consultation and/or human resource consultation, labor market information or help setting up an apprenticeship program. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. For additional information, call (845) 338-4696. The next time you need to hire new employees, contact OET. © 2003 Ulster County Information Services |
